Anti-casino drive continuing in Dhaka

As part of ongoing drive against illegal casino business and graft, law enforcers today conducted raids in capital Dhaka's Moghbazar and Tejgaon area.
A team of police led by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Dhaka South Detective Branch (DB) of police, Habib Un Nabi Anis, started raiding a bar entitled "Piyashi Bar" at Maghbazar area at around 7pm in suspicion of operating illegal casino.
Till filing of this report at around 8pm the raid was continuing.
Earlier, in the evening, police conducted another raid at Fu-Wang Club at Tejgaon Industrial area.
A joint team of DB and Tejgaon Industrial Police Station operated the drive.
Although the club had the license to have a bar, the law enforcers are conducting the drive to find out whether any discrepancies are there, according to police.
Earlier, on Sunday police seized casino boards, others gambling equipment, liquors and cash, conducting drives at four clubs in business hub Motijheel area of Dhaka.
On September 18, Rab raided at least five clubs in Dhaka city, arrested 182 people in connection with running “casinos”, gambling, and drug abuse, and sealed off at least two clubs.
Rab also arrested Jubo League Dhaka South Organizing Secretary Khalid Mahmud Bhuiyan at his Gulshan home for running a “casino” at a football club in Fakirerpool in the city.
On September 20, Rab arrested SM Golam Kibria Shamim, the top government-listed contractor in connection with tender manipulation, extortion, and running drugs and gambling rackets.
On the same day, a team of Rab also arrested Firoz in a raid on the sport club as part of the government's drive against illegal casinos.
Gambling chips, foreign pistols, 572 packets of playing cards, yellow yaba tablets and other casino material were confiscated during the drive.
