9 killed in train-microbus collision at Sirajganj

At last nine people, including a newlywed couple, have been killed in a collision between a train and a microbus in Sirajganj level crossing on Monday evening.
The incident took place beside Panchakroshi Ali Ahmed High School at Ullapara upazila at around 6:30pm, witnesses and police confirmed.
That level crossing, situated on the north side of Salap Railway Station, has no gates.
The nine victims were killed on the spot after the train, Dhaka-bound Padma Express, collided with the microbus they were on, said Ullapara police station’s Inspector Md Golam Mostofa.
The victims include six men, two women and a child.
Only the 25-year-old groom, Razan, and the 20-year-old bride, Sumaiya Khatun, have so far been identified.
Locals said the newlyweds and their relatives were going to Kandapara at Sirajganj district town from Ullapara’s Ghatina.
Sirajganj Government Railway Police Station’s OC Harun Majumder said police teams were on their way to the scene of the accident.
Inspector Mostofa also said that police were working to stop the angry locals from setting the train on fire.
