BCL leader at DU unit shot

A Dhaka University unit leader of the ruling Awami League party’s student wing, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), was shot in his leg in front of Surja Sen Hall on the campus last night.

Bullet-hit Maskat Hossan, deputy secretary of training affairs of Dhaka University (DU) BCL unit, is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

According to eyewitnesses, they heard of gunshot around 7:30pm and saw blood shedding out of the thigh of Maskat when he along with his friends was sitting in front of the hall.

There was a gun inside his pocket which probably went off accidently, the Daily Star quoted Maskat’s friends as saying.

Meanwhile, Abul Hassan, officer- in-charge (OC) of Shahbagh Police Station confirmed that Maskat sustained bullet injuries but he did not give any detail of the incident.

Earlier, Maskat Hossain was suspended from the university over his involvement in a theft in Surja Sen Hall.
