Bangladesh seeks Saudi support to create COVID-19 fund

Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister A. K. Abdul Momen has sought support of Saudi Arabia to create a voluntary pandemic fund by the member states of the world’s biggest Islamic platform, according to a foreign ministry statement.
“Momen sought support of Saudi Arabia to create a voluntary OIC COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund by OIC [Organization of Islamic Cooperation] willing member countries,” said the statement.
Bangladesh made the appeal while Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud called his Bangladeshi counterpart Momen on Wednesday.
Foreign Minister requested Prince Faisal to employ Bangladeshi workers in the agriculture sector of Saudi Arabia.
He also requested public and private investors of Saudi Arabia to invest in the livestock sector in Bangladesh to process beef and chicken.
Underling the potentiality of Bangladesh’s poultry and cattle sectors, Momen requested his Saudi counterpart to import halal [pure] beef and chicken from Bangladesh.
In addition, he informed Prince Faisal about Bangladesh’s capacity to produce good quality Personal Protective Equipment [PPEs] to stem the spread of the lethal coronavirus and expressed the country’s capacity to export them.
Momen sought Saudi support in repatriating 1.1 million Rohingya who were forcefully displaced from Myanmar to Bangladesh.
