Rangpur Medical College principal and 5 others sued

Rangpur Medical College Principal Md Nur Islam and five others have been accused of embezzling around Tk 4.5 crore through buying unnecessary and low-quality medical equipment without any consent of authorities concerned.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case with its Rangpur office in this regard today, said a press release of the anti-graft body.

According to the case statement, the accused in mutual co-operation bought unnecessary and low-quality heavy equipment for the medical college without authorization from the Directorate General of Health Services and embezzled Tk 4,48,89, 300.

The accused are Md Nur Islam, principal of RMC, Md Zaher Uddin Sarker, owner of Bengal Scientific and Surgical Co. in Dhaka, Md Abdus Sattar Sarker from Dinajpur, Md Ahsan Habib from Dhaka, Md Asadur Rahman, owner of Universal Trade Corporation and Md Sarwat Hosen, assistant professor of Community Medicine in RMC.

Principal Dr Md Nur Islam in association with Md Sarwat Hosen formed various unregulated committees to float tender and awarded the tender to his preferred organization owned by Md Zaher Uddin Sarker on July 6 last year.

Then, only five days later, he passed the bill of payment without getting the equipment as ordered, the statement said.
